April 24, 2008
It was quite apparent at the Township
of Hamilton Committee meeting April 21,
that the funding for the Hometown Celebration and fireworks were
on the budget chopping block.
My comments to the committee members were
about community spirit and how the Hometown Celebration and fireworks
were a big part of it. It was clear by the
tone of some of the committee members that they would totally
cut the funding for
both the fireworks and Hometown Celebration. We did
lose the fireworks but, a "Hail Mary Pass" introduced
by committeeman Nelson Gaskill, presented a compromise that saved
the funding for the Hometown Celebration and was approved by all
committee members.
Now working with the Merchants Association
and many concerned members of the Township of Hamilton community,
we are going to raise the funds necessary to continue the fireworks
and the Hometown Celebration that has become such a great event in
our community.
